We're babies, NOT bacon!
My name is Topper Smith. Several years ago, while living in Idaho, I Founded
Soul Harbor, Inc. On August 24, 2009 we began doing business as (
dba) as
TopperSmith.com, because the Internet domain names for Soul Harbor were all taken. Our organization is a nonprofit charity 501(c)(3).
All donations are tax deductible and neither I nor anyone involved in this organization receive pay or remuneration. My goal is to safeguard the well-being of animals by preventing needless violence, cruelty and suffering , (protecting them & others who cannot ask for help), and promoting sound stewardship of our natural resources & the environment. In summary, Soul Harbor is emerging as a grass roots clearing house for information and resources regarding the above-referenced topics. A small version of PETA, in some ways. In so doing, it is my most fervent belief that it will also help serve the human race as well. I hope to do my part as being 'one more voice' for abused, suffering and neglected animals. Please help.
People often don't want to hear about (or see), what goes on inside factory farms (or other forms of animal cruelty), because it so abusive and heartbreaking. I certainly understand their feelings. What I don't understand though, is how to get the message across that if something is so disturbing that you can't even stand to look at it, perhaps you should reconsider eating it.
Birds make us smile!
It is time for you, the consumer, to tell those involved in corporate 'farming' to stop the cruelty and demand healthy, humane methods for treating animals. Know what went into what you're serving yourself, your children and those you love!
No amount of money, rationalization or justification can make something right that is so very, very wrong!
"An industrial meat factory cannot produce a pound of bacon or a pork chop cheaper than a family farmer without breaking the law." __ Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Years ago, I had a friend (Brian M.), who had traveled around the country working for Ringling Bros. Circus. I remember him talking about the elephants and how their handlers beat them severely, even the babies. He described 'bullhooks', chains and other implements used to beat the elephants, without a shred of mercy, while they were chained and helpless. This was many years before the awareness of such cruelty came to light (such things can only happen in 'darkness') and sadly, I admit, many years before I had any real active concern about animal cruelty. My friend had no reason whatsoever to make up such stories and recalling it now, all these years later, there is no doubt whatsoever that he was describing anything other than the absolute truth of what he had routinely witnessed. I don't know what, if anything, either of us could've done about it then, but I know that I cannot and will not merely take in such information and do nothing to try and stop it. Even now, I am not sure of just what measures I can take or how to approach the issues and be effective in doing so, but I do know that I have to do something and this website is part of my ongoing attempt to do so.
